Recipe for Wholemeal Date & Walnut Scones

Does anyone have a recipe for Wholemeal Date & Walnut Scones? A friend at work is desparately trying to re-produce some health food shop bought ones but so far they are turning out like biscuits

She has replaced half the flour with white self raising. They were a little better but still did not raise very well.

I tend to stick to biscuits, flapjack and good old Victoria Sponge ... so I'd like to have a go at these too

Here's one from the Vegan Society.

I find that wholemeal scones are heavier than "white", but see if this recipe is any different.
