deleting old email addresses in gmail

Can anyone tell me how to get rid of last year's spare email address please? Pretty sure the advents have passed me by now and been using a new one since Jan 1. I have done this before but I think gmail has mucked things around again and despite googling for over an hour I can't for the life of me work out how to do it without deleting my whole gmail account.
If any one knows a current info link that would be fab. I even tweeted google to ask but nobody's listening....

Do you mean you have an email account that you don't want to use anymore?

    I googled, and found this

    Go to Google Account Settings.
Select Delete your account or services under Account preferences.
    Click Delete Products
Select the Gmail account you want to delete.
Type the password to the account over Enter your password.
    Click Next.
Click the trashcan icon next to Gmail.

Never deleted an old GMail account, but hope that helps.

I have an email account with more than one email address associated with it Moneybot and want to delete one of the addresses but keep the account and other addresses.
Thanks Libra, but I just can't find those things. I've googled and found a few instructions but I just can't follow them. I can't find settings on the main google account page. I can find it on my email page but there's no account preferences or services there.

    Unlink your address
On your Android phone or tablet, open the Gmail app Gmail.
In the top left, tap the Menu Menu.
    Scroll down, then tap Settings.
Tap the Gmail account you'd like to unlink from your other account.
In the "Linked Account" section, tap Unlink account.
Choose whether to keep copies of emails from the account.
    Tap Unlink.
After you unlink your other account from Gmail, you can choose to keep or delete existing copies of your other account's messages in your Gmail inbox.

If you delete copies from Gmail, they’ll still be in the inbox of your other service (for example, Yahoo or Hotmail).
If you keep copies in Gmail, they’ll stay in your Gmail account. However, if you move or delete them in Gmail, these actions won’t be reflected in your other account.
After you unlink your accounts, Gmail will stop showing you new messages from your other account.
