(FTB) Should I be updating the vendor's estate agents on our progress?

First time buyer here. I keep reading that 'everyone should be kept in the loop' about how things are progressing at our end eg. with the solicitors etc.

Does this mean I need to be updating the vendor's estate agents on how my case is progressing through my solicitors? If so, how often should I update them? At what milestones?

Neither of us are in a chain. The solicitors have just received our signed pack with ID's etc. The offer was accepted last Tues (we only received the pack from the solicitors on Sat).

    Generally no, but I always do as basically it shuts them up, stops them nagging, and lets them know you're proactive and getting on with things lol.


    They'll prob know when the survey has been booked as they'll be arranging a date with their client for the surveyor to visit. I would usually say when I've got the survey back, although would wait until I'd decided if there was anything there to make me re-think the purchase or ask for a price reduction. Would also say when I've got my mortgage acceptance.


    If things are dragging at the end, I'll usually keep them in the loop and say what I'm waiting for and when I chased it. Don't like them thinking I'm sitting there twiddling my thumbs. The delay might be something they can help with.

    There's every chance that they are talking to your solicitor anyway so will know what stage you are at

    I’ve been in regular contact with the vendor’s EA - they had a dedicated move manager and as everything had to go as quickly as possible (chain had been ready to exchange when buyer pulled out and we offered) she was doing regular (VERY regular) chase emails so I decided I’d update her on my terms so she’d leave me alone.

    Due to the situation it was in our benefit as well as we obviously didn’t want anyone in the chain to panic and pull out as things had been dragging on for them before said buyer pulled out.

    Unless an issue arises, or they start hassling you for information, I wouldn't bother.


    It's in the hands of conveyancers now.

    I would (and do). They talk to the vendor a lot more than the vendor's solicitor does. For many vendors, how they feel about you and the transaction will be influenced primarily by what their agent is telling them.

    The vendor's agent on my last purchase told me they "wished all their clients were like me", while on the flip side of the coin, I nearly put my property back on the market because my agent was getting visibly frustrated with radio silence from my buyer.
