Is it worth being in a Union these days?

Nor would the duty solicitor necessarily be representing you in court, nor would they automatically attend any disciplinary meetings at your place of work.

It horrifies me how many of my colleagues (working with chaotic adults) are not in a union. Some of them don't have a clue what a trade union does ...
I know full well what they do. Do you remember the strike after a tube driver was disciplined for opening the doors on the wrong side of the train?

They can, and do protect bad staff as well as good ones. They can stop companies doing what is needed to stay afloat, and sap competitiveness.

I’d say that if you have few skills, don’t particularly care about doing a good job, and care more about your rights then responsibilities then joining makes sense. If you always go the extra mile, give management what they want, and believe in taking responsibilities for your actions then think twice.
