I’m much worse than the OP and I don’t (or didn’t) think I have a problem.
Maybe I’ll start a month long log and see if I’m out of control!0 -
have you seen in this forum there is a thread called no buying unnecessary toiletries? You should join! also recommend Hannah Louise Poston videos on Youtube and project pan videos in general0

I signed up just to reply to this (though I admit I’m a long term lurker). I too have had a severe makeup obsession for many years. It started in my early thirties when my depression and anxiety were quite bad. I read blogs, obsessed over new releases and limited editions, and essentially wracked up thousands in credit card debts. I used to buy a particular brand obsessively and several times a week would be at their counters in both my local department stores and yes I understand the embarrassment of the sales assistants recognising you. I also spent thousands of pounds on nail polish.
However, as my depression improved over the last 12 to 18 months I was able to get a grip on my spending and my thought processes. You’ve had some really good advice from other posters, I too would recommend the make up rehab sub reddit, it’s very inspiring reading it, and you might find it helps to retrain your thoughts. I would say regarding your brand decision, if you prefer the Clinique foundation then buy it. Yes it’s more expensive, but you will more than likely spend more in the long run on the ‘cheaper’ products while on the hunt for something as good as the one you really want. And for something like foundation I think it’s even more acceptable to just go with the one that works the best for you.
Accepting you have an issue is really important, and you’ve done that so well done! Next step is learning to get on top of and I’m sure you can, and you will definitely find support online - so many of us have fallen into this trap to one degree or another and we’re trying to crawl out of it. I’ve ruined my future because of it; I’m paying off my debts as quickly as I can, but I rent privately and will never be able to buy a home because of this and it breaks my heart (I’m 45 now, I have at least another two or three years paying down debt). It doesn’t sound like you are even close to being that bad so the future is bright for you - you can do this!0
