LGPS Ill health retirement

I have recently been given tier 1 ill health retirement from my current employer and my pension is due to commence from the 1st of February. I have a second deferred LGPS pension for which I am having to go through a second occupational health assessment to establish if this can be paid to me also; my question is given the LGPS is a single pension scheme but devolved to local authority fund schemes how likely is it that having been given tier 1 already the other pension fund administrators will come to some other conclusion? Secondly, given the delay in this process which has occurred can my deferred pension be backdated to the 1st of February or will it only be payable from when I am deemed unfit for work with the other pension fund?

Any advice or similar experience would be greatly appreciated.

Different rules apply to deferred benefits being brought into payment on ill health grounds. There are no tiers, and no enhancements - just payment of pension actually accrued without any actuarial reductions for early payment. The date of payment will be linked to their own processes, and so may not be backdated to 1st of Feb.

It's normal procedure to have to go through another occ health review, unfortunately, as your old employers have to 'tick the box' to authorise your old LGPS to pay you your deferred benefits. It's not impossible for your old employer to reject your ill health claim - but it would be unusual.

In your case, not combining your pensions when you changed jobs (assume you took a substantial drop in pay?) won't have cost you anything - you only get one Tier 1 enhancement (from 1 Feb to your State pension age) and that is being paid with your current pension.
