Are They Bailiffs & what are the Steps?

I currently owe HMRC unpaid backdated VAT/TAX, which i cant afford to pay & they wanted me to pay it within a year & they would not consider a longer repayment time, but said it could be a possibility if it went to court.


I have had letters in past saying they will make me bankrupt if i dont pay witin 21 days last year.
But because i have a medical conditon they said they wanted letter about my condition, which my doctor written to them about it last year & not heard from them since. So I expected that the next step would be going to court or another letter.



But 2 weeks ago I have seen a woman on my CCTV knocking on my door holding some letters with a camera on her chest, waiting around for a few minutes, sat in her car for 10-15mins before driving off. No phone calls or letters posted through the door this happened twice in the space of a few days.



Yesterday evening she was back with another male colleague in a van, again both had camera tags on their chest and she was holding a letter. She also left a message on my voicemail (From the CCTV footage I seen, looks like she got my number of a neighbour) On the message she says she's from Exco Civil Enforcemnt & she has a docement she needs to hand to me & if i could call her back to arrange a time for her to hand me this document & explain to me what she is doing. They was around for about 15 mins before leaving.


On all these occasions no letters has not been received to me about any court dates and she has not put any letters or docements through my letterbox.



So my question/s are:

1 Is this the baliffs trying to give me notice?

2. What happens if i continue to ignore her & not make contact?
3. Because it id due to VAT/TAX can they pick the lock/force entry into my property & start taking stuff?
4. The debt is in my name, can they start taking my wife or kids stuff? (What confimation would they have who owns what?)

She is a process server employed by HMRC who is trying to serve you a Statutory Demand (have you been served with one yet ?) or a Bankruptcy Petition.


2. What happens if i continue to ignore her & not make contact?
HMRC will continue with their action, if you dont co-operate they can serve the legal documents by post

As its has got to the this stage they arent interested in taking goods, they want to serve with you the legal documents only.

I think you will find the company concerned is Excel Civil Enforcemnt. They work exclusively for Local authorities and government departments.
