I have a pod machine but I like my coffee properly hot, not Luke warm so I seldom use it. I know the water isn't supposed to be boiling or you scorch the grounds but for me, the machine stuff is too cool.
    I'd rather use the cafetière.

So how is my pod machine, using pods that are then thrown on my fire, trashing the planet? lol !

Is that a bonfire, open fire or log burner?

  • I use the nespresso Pixie machine which I’ve had since 2011, zero issues and has been used twice daily...
It can still be got and is highly recommended, and like Mardatha, I don’t get the environmental issues either,

  • Have you tried the various machines?

I love “proper” espresso, and have never found that any of the pod machines makes it. Despite this I have a Keurig as it’s OK and quick and easy.

Otherwise I have instant most of the time.

The only properly excellent coffee I make at home is with an old fashioned tovevtop coffee pot with very fresh espresso ground beans.

we have a Delonghi very similar to Mardathas.
You stick the ground stuff in the little cup thing and water in the reservoir and it makes one cup at a time. We only drink it black and get through about a pack of coffee a week (3 peoples use) and I descale it about every 3 months with wilkos citric acid (takes about 45 minutes). The only throw away is the grounds which we stick in the compost . It takes about a second to put the coffee in , about a second to top up the water if its getting low and about a minute to wait for it to heat and pour if its from cold. If someone has had a coffee in the last hour or so, you dont need to wait for it to heat as it still has enough heat to just pour a cup. My son likes expresso and just has one zap of the stuff but I like it a bit weaker and so press the button twice for double the water but the same amount of grounds.
  • I've got a Krupps , makes espresso or jug coffee. Suits me fine.

We have a nespresso, we however don’t use disposable pods, we have a few metal ones, just pop a bit of ground coffee and pop in the machine, you just then give them a rinse when done.
  • I have a £15.00 Wilkos percolator which is fine for me, and I make half a pot which I have in the morning (I do like my coffee) I have a tin which I keep my coffee in and apart from the grounds I have no waste at all.(I don't have a compost heap as I don't do gardening, I paya chap once a fortnight to come and mow the grass and weed etc and he takes all the clippings away with him) My eldest DD has two all singing dancing machines and seems to spend a fortune of different pods .
