ASDA and COUPONS

Did my regular Asda shop this evening (Trafford Park) and was told by teenage check-out assistant that they only accept vouchers upto 10% of the shopping total.
Am very laid-back person and am far too timid to argue with anyone normally but I was using luncheon vouchers and was under the impression that they amount of them that you can use is dependant on the number of meals that you have bought. But, she stuck to her guns as did "Mrs, I'm so superior than thou, head checkout woman".
The whole situation left me shaking, not because it was confrontational in any way, (I think Asda staff are the best if I had to choose between shops), but, because I actually questioned what I was being told, which is a huge, huge step forward for me and I quite surprised myself, not to mention my partner who vividly remembers having to do absolutely everything for me a year or so back whilst I dealt with agorophobia for 6months.
Anyhoo, diversing here, who is right? Me or checkout girl and does anyone know exactly what Asda's policy is with vouchers?
And I want to say a huge thankyou to every writer of every post that I have read which gave me that little bit of confidence to stand up for myself for the first time in years. It won't be long before I am demanding to see the manger. (Funnily enough, I used to work with one of Asda, Trafford Park managers years ago, that should make it easier.)
Thank you all again.

I thought luncheon vouchers could be used as cash?
some ASDA's have a spend limit on the number of money off coupons you can use without buying the products (my local ASDA is 30%, but it varies). But I thought Luncheon Vouchers were different.
Might be worth an e-mail to ASDA head office, for clarification?
Anyway, well done you for have the courage and confidence to stand up for yourself. :TI'm a retired employment solicitor. Hopefully some of my comments might be useful, but they are only my opinion and not intended as legal advice.0 -
To answer your questions - you were right. Luncheon vouchers can be handed over in any participating store (and Asda is one). Would seem to me that they're misinterpreting their own policy. The 10% in vouchers policy that they usually stick to applies only to coupons for items you haven't bought, and as the LVs are for "food" they shouldn't be included, as clearly you did buy it!
Well done on the recently acquired confidence and especially on overcoming your agorophobia, that's a huge leap and you have every right to feel very proud of yourself :T0 -
I had a similar experience in Tesco, who are supposed to take the lucncheon vouchers. I checked at customer services first that they accepted them and showed them the picture on the luncheon voucher book of their store logo. The very nice man said that if they didn't take them at the till, if I took them back to customer services, he would give me the money for them. Might be worth a try if you still have your receipt, or remember for next time you go in. Well done you, anyway!!0
