Aldi adverts

Options
Keep seeing those aldi adverts that say there cheaper than tesco but the tesco products they show are stuff like lurpack butter cathedral city cheese and the top branded items which will be more so why don't aldi compare cheaper items at tescos like own brands which is what I would buy

I seem to recall that the Aldi adverts do a straight like-for-like compare, so presumably they can only include branded items that both supermarkets sell.

If it's an own brand, then the other supermarket won;t sell it.

Aldi have very few branded items - and they can only compare exact matches in adverts.

Try mysupermarket.co.uk - if I type in butter, then select Aldi from the dropdown list, then select their Norpack (Lurpack-based own brand), it shows me Aldi/£1.99, Tesco/ £2.20*. The * indicates it's a different product, which is most likely to be the Tesco equivalent of Lurpack .

Don't think so. They're look alikes designed to make people think they're buying a similar product. Aldi sells very few branded items.

Because they're trying to convince people to shop with them by showing the biggest possible price differential. The whole point of advertising is to look as impressive as they can. Own brand comparisons aren't going to do that.

Pedant alert - it's could have, not could of.

I've seen the Valentines ad - they're really pushing this promotion this year, aren't they? Shall I treat myself to a heart-shaped brioche because I love it so much?

Does the brioche taste better because it's heart shaped:rotfl:

No The Aldi TV advert does a comparison of big brands at Tesco v Aldi "own brands" . It is very misleading at a quick look , but is stated in the small print .See https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZbvfoHO3xUk
