Do I need a passport to apply for a provisional licence?
Sorry I really couldn't find another thread to put this in.
Ive had my provisional for 10 years, obviously it's came up for renewal I haven't learnt to drive yet but I was planning to this year.
The only documents it allows for ID is a passport - I don't have a passport! I probably last had one about 15years ago maybe - I managed to get my provisional in the first place somehow maybe with the passport or maybe the rules were different back then.
Anyway. Do I really need to first apply for a passport, spend £80 odd quid when I really don't need it - I've managed this far without one - to then get a provisional? Is there really no other way possible to get it without a passport?

Maybe they need a form of photo identification??
This is as far as my understanding is with what I've read.
You can get the form from the post office with a booklet with a list of ID acceptable.
I will defo be making a trip to the post office then..
Thank you and hopefully this is the case if not.. I'll be back!!
I would really recommend the post office "check and send" service, I think it's less than a fiver , they will take your picture and crucially they will know if your pic is up to the standard or not, and they will also check if you have filled everything in right and your signature is good, and if you have enough supporting documentation.
I know we're into money saving, but I think the fiver versus endless back and forth with the DVLA rejecting your photo is a good investment, and it's about what a "Photo-Me" booth would cost you, and the machine won't check you've posed correctly etc.

EDIT - it's £4.50
