Damp proof

So I've damp in my front wall, which I suspect is rising. I've read the threads on here, and saw what seems like a good suggestion - to get an independent report (ray mccleery was recommended), but does anyone know how much that is likely to cost?
Also, can anyone recommend someone for the dampproof work? Gary McKibbens name comes up a lot, but there are mixed reports...
