Getting a car while bankrupt - questions

I've been declared bankrupt a few months ago (although I haven't posted, these forums have been great for information and encouragement) and need to get a car.
I'm planning on getting a really cheap car and feel I can justify it to the official receiver for family reasons, but I have a question about insurance. I did some quotes online and car insurance looks really expensive. I have had a licence for years and have lots of no claims so I am guessing that this is due to my bankrupt status. Does anyone have any advice around how to minimise the cost of the insurance? Any particular providers? Monthly car insurance policies? Or whether it is possible to put it in a family members name when I am the main driver and we don't live together.
Also if anyone has any advice on explaining the reasons for needing a car to the official received that could be great. (My father has cancer and it is actually cheaper to visit him with a car than getting the train).
All advice welcome!
Thanks!!

A family member can buy it in their name (on the receipt or invoice) while you can be the registered keeper on the V50 -
Old cars can often be more expensive to insure due to the lower safety standards, unavailability of body panels and the fact they're more likely to be a financial write off due to the cost of repairs.
You cannot put the insurance in a family member's name when you are the main driver. That is known as fronting and is proper full criminal can end up in court with a conviction fraud. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. Have you had a break in your years of insurance cover - you seem to imply you don't currently have car insurance? If there has been a break (non-consecutive years) it can impact heavily.
I never found the quotes to be more expensive because I was BR - just that a lot of providers would not give me instalments as paying monthly by DD is a form of loan. Paying upfront for the year was fine.
Its also true that premiums seems to rise inexorably every year!! It may just be prices have gone up and if you have not had insurance for a little while it might seem like a big jump.0
