Hello
Thank you for reading
I was to the dentist because my front tooth root canal needs to be redone, I do have a repetitive infection, (I can't remember which dentist did this years ago), and basically the dentist told me he needs to take off what is inside without braking the tooth, and it is a complicated procedure, he said I need 4 appointments to do this, since the bone has been damaged and the healing process can take up to 6 months, and the total cost for it is £638
it seems a lot of money just for a rootcanal
any suggestion according this matter will be very appreciative
thank you very much in advance for your support

i was recently told i could have a root canal on a back tooth that has 4 roots and it would be about £800, so yours sounds near enough right. You're not your * could have not of * Debt not dept *0

The price is about right IMO. I paid about that to have a molar done over 10 years ago. It does vary by region.0

Re-doing a root canal is more complicated than doing it in the first place. The price does sound about right to me too.How to find a dentist.
1. Get recommendations from friends/family/neighbours/etc.
2. Once you have a short-list, VISIT the practices - dont just phone. Go on the pretext of getting a Practice Leaflet.
3. Assess the helpfulness of the staff and the level of the facilities.
4. Only book initial appointment when you find a place you are happy with.0 -
Thank you very much to all of you for your support
I have just had my first treatment today and I need to have 2 more
they did charge me 322 pounds and it took him just 20minutes to do it
I was told it was a very complicated procedure and then in just 20min was done very easely0 -
I take it this is being done privately? There are 3 bands on the NHS so you shouldn't be paying more than band 3 which includes root canal treatment, which is currently £59.10p0

I struggle to believe that figure. I had root canal treatment a few years ago, from an NHS dentist. At the time I was receiving benefits, but he made it clear to me that otherwise the NHS charge would have been hundreds of pounds (in the context of discussing the choice between root canal or extraction, and why many patients would prefer extraction).0 -

Voyager and Thomas: I can assure you this is correct information. It has come direct from the NHS website.https://www.nhs.uk/common-health-questions/dental-health/how-much-will-i-pay-for-nhs-dental-treatment/
As you can see, root canal treatment is included in band 2.
There are sadly many dentists still with shady practices but thankfully not all. My friend's husband had treatment where it was a crown or a large filling that had come out, and he was charged again. I told her he should have contested this as dental work is 'guaranteed' for 12 months. He didn't want the stress and hassle so he just paid up again which is crazy.0 -
The link is for NHS prices in England. Wales is different, and Scotland has a completely different system altogether.
The OP is having private treatment though, as that price is above any of the UK NHS charges. Also, a re-root treatment would probably be too complex, and even an NHS dentist would probably have to refer that to a private endodontic specialist.
As for the 12 month guarantee you mention separately, that is not a universal, unconditional guarantee.
It only applies if the same dentist is doing the same filling/treatment and no warnings were given to the patient beforehand that the treatment may not last (for example if the dentist had recommended a crown, but the patient had wanted a filling to be done instead)How to find a dentist.
