Landrover

Hi, I wasn't sure where to put this.
I've had loads of issues with my Landrover. I bought the car in October 2017 and the problems start on 5th June 2018.
It has then been in the garage on all these dates:
5th June 2018
5th July 2018
16th July 2018
17th August 2018
30th August 2018
21st November 2018 – First DPF filter replaced, they tried to claim it was driving style but I’ve had the car over a year and never had an issue. Picked it up 22nd November 2018
17th December 2018 – a little over 3 weeks later back in to have another DPF filter replaced
4th January 2019 – Picked it up.
17th January 2019 – less than 2 weeks later another new DPF filter so a total of 5 weeks driving and 3 DPF filters.
3rd February 2019 – picked it up
5th February 2019 – record less than 2 days and gone back in because Landrover forgot to attach my brake calliper.
Landrover said it’s not covered under warranty and its around £2000 a time for a new DPF filter which every 2 weeks I can’t afford. I’ve been paying for a car which I haven’t had because its been in the garage for almost the entire November, December and January so they advised me to reject it through the finance company as the car isn't fit for purpose.
The finance company have said the fault wasn't present when the car was purchased so it's my problem although the faults have started within 8 months of owning the car. It's a new DPF filter approximately every 2 weeks at £2000. Which I can't afford and isn't covered under warranty.
What was meant to be a happy occassion - purchasing a luxury car for my 30th and because my grandad died and it has turned into a nightmare.
I'm paying a stupid amount per month and I haven't had a car since November.
Does anyone have any advice on what to do next?

There are quite a few sites that say this is a known fault, but the drivers method of driving are the usual excuse.
Did the garage give you a reason why you are getting failures every two weeks?
To be honest its a Landrover probably a prestige model? It is usually someone with plenty money that buys these as they can afford the regular repair bills. They do have a really atrocious name for reliability.:eek:The world is not ruined by the wickedness of the wicked, but by the weakness of the good. Napoleon0 -
They've said that a pipe wasn't letting the air in so it wasn't getting the correct flow through but now I don't trust the car after having it replaced three times. It's going to go again in three weeks.
No, it's just an evoque, bought second hand.0 -

Did they fix the pipe, is it a landrover dealer?
One of the many threads below, Please ask mods if they can move this to the motor forum as you will get more expert replies there.

Yes but it's another thing in a long list of things they keep saying they've fixed and then a few days / weeks later it's back in the garage.
Yes Landrover main dealer.
My main issue is I'm paying for a car that is in the garage so I don't have a car!0 -
They say in the trade that you can always tell you're at a Land Rover dealer by the number of AA and RAC breakdown trucks that arrive on a regular basis throughout the day.0

You are naive if you buy a Landrover with any expectation that it will be either reliable or problem free.
Having said that your vehicle should not be eating FPF's in the manner that your describe and I would make a formal complaint both to the garage and Landrover themselves. Word you letter firmly, concisely and factually and see what comes back.0 -

That would cause a DPF filter to become blocked very quickly.
When you restrict the airflow of air going into the engine on a diesel the result is a lot of black smoke and soot - in fact the result is so widely known that in the HGV test one of the questions you were asked is "if there is excessive black smoke from the exhaust what is the problem?", correct reply was "blocked air filter". The pipe not letting in enough air would cause a similar restriction to a blocked air filter. Now before cars were fitted with DPF filters you'd have seen it spewing out of the back of the exhaust but now we have DPF filters which capture all of this. The amount the engine can spew out is truly horrific when this is a problem and would overcome a DPF filter extremely quickly. It is perfectly within the realms of possibility that it could block one within a week or two. This is a system account and does not represent a real person.
