Spare Nissan key won't work
Tried to use the spare key we have with our 4 year old Nissan note today (bought from new) and it won't work the alarm. I can physically unlock with the key but buttons don't work. Also, it will not start the ignition. Called Nissan and they want to charge £135 to recode the key.
Does anyone know whether a key should lose its code simply through not being used? Is there any alternative options?

Checked the battery in the fob?0

Maybe it never worked in the first place.0

Battery is fine as swapped with working fob. Don’t know if ever worked as never needed it.
Having an argument with Nissan as they claim it can lose the coding if not used! Is that correct?0 -
Yes it can, especially if the battery goes flat at some point.
I swap my keys annually and replace the batteries.0 -
Have you searched the net to see if there is a way of recoding
for example getting in the car turning ignition on, pressing buttons etc
its worked for me on cars in the past0 -

Do you have that in writing from Nissan?Having an argument with Nissan as they claim it can lose the coding if not used! Is that correct?
If so and there is nothing written in the car user manual about this then I would write to Nissan customer service asking for them to cover the cost as how are you meant to know about it and thus prevent it from happening?
My car (not a Nissan) came with 2 remote keys and I've only ever used one of them and the spare is kept safe and I'm sure that this is what a great many car owners do.0
