How to remove sellotape glue?

I taped some kitchen things together with sellotape for moving home and with the tape removed there’s sticky glue left behind. Washing up suds did not remove it. Any suggestions please? One of the items has a painted surface btw

  • was going to suggest surgical spirit/nail varnish remover, but neither of those are paint friendly - may work for other items?

There is an aerosol can Sticky Stuff remover - sorry can't remember it's proper name which removes these types of adhesion substances. Try googling sticky stuff remover. I think Lakeland also do a version of it.

We make lots of jam and marmalade for charity fundraising and it's invaluable for removing those labels from jars which a good soaking in warm soapy water fail to remove or which leave a sticky substance behind.

Have you tried rubbing washing up liquid on a washing up sponge, the sort you can use on non-stick pans?

  • Second the WD40 :) If you don't have any, a small amount of vegetable oil (or similar) on a piece of kitchen towel will do the trick ;)

Isopropyl alcohol. I buy it online. It is brilliant for getting sticky marks off.

:) A bit of either white spirit or surgical spirit on a cotton wool ball or bit of tissue.

Once it has done its job, wash up with hot soapy water. I use this technique on all sorts of surfaces, from glass jars where I de-label to paperback books, where the chazzer's price label has left a sticky mess.

Obvs, I don't wash the books with hot soapy water, but a wipe with a clean tissue removed the residue of spirit. HTH.

I use oil. So olive oil, baby oil or whichever you've got in the house. That will remove the stickiness and then you can wash it off with soapy water. Just put some on a tissue and rub away.

I use it for the residue on jars if I want t clean the labels off for reusing.
