If you search mother of the bride on ebay you can then set filters on the left hand side of the screen to only show listings where returns are accepted.

You really need to know your actual measurements and also that of the garment rather than just using size 12 etc.

Yes early 60s - no not got hardly any shops much locally at all.


Do the 'mothers' need to blend in or compliment the bridesmaids colours - or is that at brides discretion - this bride doesn't seem to mind.

I've never worn it but having wafted past their concessions in various department stores, Jacques Vert do seem to do quite nice stuff for MOB.

We have a few charity shops around here that specialise in wedding outfits, MOB in particular

I got my last outfit for a wedding in a charity shop as well ( just an aunt at that one ) they are worth a rummage

I remember that one, Suki - great bargain.


We have a couple of dress agencies here that also sell the complete MOB outfit - dress, shoes, hat, handbag.

Well I plan on going out to shops sometime as health allows but we only have small towns here so not the same as ciuties to choose from. I love colour so have this as a standby - (no idea why I cannot do images any more!) Country Casuals pink and cream dress with either a cream jacket from Roman Originals or this fluted sleeve one - got a cream fascinator but plan on looking for a cerise and cream hat if I can find one!

Like the dress, welshbabe88, looks like it would be comfortable as well as smart.

It says 'cerise & white' (rather than cream).
I think you'll need to be careful about matching your colours.

Thanks Polly - yes I've had some white & cream jackets to try - it looks mostly creamy bits as the top layer is pretty much see through and the lining is cerise - its a sort of burnout fabric on the top, so I think I could wear either really and the lace jacket is ivory - but I'm happy to keep those for other times.
The cerise jacket is a pretty good colour match (I ordered loads from catalogues) - I've also got a cerise lace shrug that I can wear if I take the jacket off.
I did fancy making a matching jacket/shrug by maybe buying another dress but one is £80 on ebay and the other is £35 but a size 10 so not so much fabric to play with - though if I see a reasonable one I shall get it just to make a narrow scarf as I miss having a collar on the dress or jacket.

Re colour:
I think cream (or maybe off-white/ivory) will be more elegant than white so great if that goes.
