As a matter of interest, what is the required notice period, and did you find it in writing anywhere?

5 weeks notice because I have been here nearly 6 years. I have just been told this by my manager so taking his word for it.
  • I left my job of 11 months back in July with no notice and nothing happened. I got my pay

That would be the statutory notice if they were giving you notice.

However, unless your contract happens to say that (which is possible) then he is probably getting confused!

Many people park on double yellow lines without getting a ticket but that doesn't make it lawful!
  • I’m not suggesting it but I’m just quite frankly saying what happened in experience! All depends on circumstances, people don’t know what goes on in people’s personal life

Do not take his word, their agenda may be quite different from yours.

Look out your written statement of particulars, notice period should be contained there.

    Thanks everybody for their comments.

I will definitely be working my notice period!

Another option is to ask for your notice period to be reduced. Some employers don't like people who have already resigned hanging around and are happy to get rid of you sooner.

Thanks. I am asking for a copy of my contract so I can see what it says in there.
