SIA Licence Door vs Security

Hey

Going to take a SIA course (3 days) But unsure which to choose any help?

Door supervisor or Security

Any suggestions?

Have no intention to work on the doors/clubs/pubs in manchester.

But i'm told the door supervisor offers more jobs or something?

And is this SIA card good to have in the long run?

  • What job do you want to do? What experience and what qualifications do you need to do that job?

Randomly doing qualifications trying to find a job that you don't seem to know a lot about is not a great plan in my view.

If the door supervisor course leads to potentially more jobs, but the majority of those jobs are on the doors / clubs / pubs, then you're not much further forward, are you?

Surely you just need to ask the company what qualifications you need to be eligible for their job...only they can answer that one.

I think the door security course is more thorough and also covers general security.

    I work in the industry.

My advice would be to go for the DS licence, it also includes the Guarding licence. Even though it is called Door Supervisor, it is not just for door work at clubs etc.

It is also required for many other security vacancies including working in hospitals, at events, public facilities, shopping centres, distribution centres and many other roles. It is usually specific to the role and/or employer, one employer may require DS licence for the same job that another employer might not.

It is a small investment now, for more opportunity in the future if you intend to stay in the industry.

I've had both since 2015. I have DS and have never done doors. Never would either. It just opens things up for you. A lot of security employers would find you a more attractive candidate with more than one licence, close protection makes you even more employable but I didn't want to to that.

You're going to be doing a hell of a lot of writing, some of the course is practical but the majority is written coursework, you might even find yourself doing public services coursework which will seem like it has nothing to do with security but again having those qualifications will help you get work. Mine also came with a counter terrorism awareness course which looks good on your cv

Currently off sick from work related stress but don't let that put you off lol

    written coursework? Sure?

My cousin just did his course and he only did some paperwork on the 1st day.

The other days where examples powerpoint and watching videos and physical intervention stuff.

Last day was more physical intervention and a paper-based exam.

Maybe they have changed the course over time? sure seems like it.

As for public services coursework? it doesn't mention that.

Says its 4 days most of it is training and some paper work.

I'm sure the course has changed in the last 4 years.

Still What exactly do you write about? lol *how to be a nice doorman* lol

You need to do the DS course.

    The 'security one' is worthless.
DS covers that one fully + additional stuff.

All security jobs require DS (even if you just a basic guard).
