Been with debt Agency 7 years and still no nearer being debt free, help please!

Hi everyone,

Briefly i had my own shop 1998 to 2000 and through pig headedness and stupid pride i kept it going way past its deadline on bank loans, credit cards and extended credit from suppliers, I got into £20,000 of debt (all personal as was sole trader and all loans cards etc where for personal) So i got in touch with a debt company and basicly been with them ever since, when i joined i was told i would have at least 80% of them written off within 64 months, well i still have them all, the debt company has changed hands twice and even after asking them several times to speak to my debters and ask them to write me off or give me a final figure i have not had any of the 8 companies say anything. I dont know what to do next? i am way to scared to deal with it all on my own hence the getting a debt agency in the first place, but i feel so angry and upset about it all. i dont earn any money as i stopped working 2004 due to my husband having unexpected stay in hospital and my depression due to that/work and money worries, I dont claim any benifits and my husband does work that is paid by the job so even considering trying to claim would just end up being a nightmare that i dont want to add to things at the moment. my husband gives me money every month to pay my personal bills, (dog insurance, perscriptions, debtcom and car stuff) so what do i do? how do i get rid of some of my debts? can i get any written off? if so how? I remember about 12 years ago i had a catalogue and i couldnt pay, the gay came round and said just tell me you cant pay and that will be the end of it, so i did and it got written off. why cant i do that now?
Help please!!!

Hi there, I am not that good on these things, but I would suggest giving CCCS or Payplan a call in the morning and explain things to them. They may well be able to help you, and won't charge you for the privilege. Lots here are with them and they do a fab job.

    good luck x

  • I am guessing that you are with a debt company who charge you for their service? If so, stop now and give one of the free ones a go. CCCS, National Debtline or Payplan are recommended on here. I don't know their numbers, but someone on here will.

In the meantime, post up your SoA - a list of your income, outgoings, and details of all your debts, balances, minimum payments, APRs etc. We can then have a look and advise you better.

  • I think that the first thing you should do is chat to someone at one of the debt charities (see my sig.) Who is your IVA with? CCCS may be able to take it over and they charge no fees or they may have other ideas.

Meanwhile why don't you post a SOA (see sticky at top of front page) and the guys round here can look at whether you are getting best value.
