chutney/mincemeat/preserve help!

  • Just one more thing to add - if you're making anything with vinegar in it can "attack" the metal lids if they're not plastic coated (inside) which will make the chutney taste horrid I woud imagine.

    I have a friend who cuts large discs of greaseproof(about saucer size for a 1lb jar) and puts that between the jar and the lid.

    I know Lakeland sell waxed discs, failing that some rural post-offices (if you can find one:eek: ), village shops and newsagents sometimes sell them. You might find them in Woolies - they're ususually sold in a sellophane packet along with rubber bands,small labels and cellophane discs.
