Can I leave my car parked in neutral because it hasn't got a park gear? E-brake enquiry also.

After an accident a friend was pointed to the small print of the car manual that said because it has an electric handbrake it should always be parked in gear.

Was the handbrake relevant to the accident?

OK. Definitely driver at fault. HC Rule 252 "If you park on a hill you should:
    • park close to the kerb and apply the handbrake firmly
    • select a forward gear and turn your steering wheel away from the kerb when facing uphill
    • select reverse gear and turn your steering wheel towards the kerb when facing downhill
    • use ‘park’ if your car has an automatic gearbox."

So, has the OP got the right answer here?
  • My car didn't come with a manual, the dealer is ordering me one. Thanks for all the advice. I'll update the post when I receive my manual.
  • Have a look here,

  • I have a Peugeot and I don't like it either. I've driven autos and haven't applied a hand brake for ten years. Just shift into park and get out. Now I have to select neutral before it will even start, then put it in drive, then release b the electronic brake which takes a lifetime to figure out whether it's on foot or in horseback. 45 minutes later I drive away.

The electronic brake is supposed to auto release but the reality is because it takes. 15 minutes to figure out out you will have wrecked your car if you simply drive away. You will need to release it manually and wait for runway clearance

The other thing is that I have never had an automatic roll back on me in my life, but Peugeots, and I guess Citroen's, do, the irony being they talk about "hill start assist" like it's a feature

That's sheer laziness. You're still meant to use the handbrake.

Who would ever think it normal to leave manual car in gear with the handbrake off? Same difference.

My Honda would roll back too, took me by surprise the first time!

My experience with the automatic handbrake on my new Volvo is similar to yours, I tried it for a couple of days but gave up. Who uses a handbrake in an automatic unless it's on a steep slope?
Tall, dark & handsome. Well two out of three ain't bad.
