He needs to find out the rules for his current pension plus check what his state pension entitlement is.0

He can 'retire' (i.e. stop working) whenever he likes. He won't be entitled to his state pension until he reaches state pension age. Not clear from your question if he is currently working for a government department? If so, he needs to contact the scheme and find out his options. They'll be used to this sort of request, so don't worry about asking.0

thank you for your advise he works for the local council,so I was not sure if he can take the pension early.
hes army pension is lot a lot as he was only there for ten years.0 -
Your husband is in the LGPS pension scheme? See
https://www.lgpsmember.org/tol/thinking-leaving-when.php
He should contact the Administrator for information on his position.
Has he obtained a new state pension statement?

He can check his state pension at the link above.
For information on his retirement from local government service, he needs to contact the administrator of the scheme or check on the website of the LA that employs him.

You mention a medical condition - will he be seeking retirement on medical grounds?0 -
he was off 5 months got back to work this week ,and saw occupation health she signed him back to work as they can not get rid of him for his disability.hes old line manager told him to hang on for a year?0
-
can not get rid of him for his disability.
No indeed - I was thinking only that if a person is considered too ill to work, "medical" retirement can be a possibility.
Perhaps his old line manager can help him navigate the information on his LGPS web site?0 -
My LGPS now has a website which allows members to login to check their own personal 'stuff'. It's very easy to navigate, perhaps it's worth ringing up the administering body to ask about yours.
As for your query, I've always found the staff at my administering authority really helpful and knowledgeable. Yours should be the same. Making an appointment if needed is easy too.0 -
Thank you all for your advice we will contact our lgps for advice.0
