Advice on changing jobs 2 months before bankruptcy ends

Hi
I have 2 months left until the end of my bankruptcy and I have the opportunity to change jobs.
If I hand my notice in tomorrow I will actually owe my employer money, as I have an anualised contract running from 1st june and I work 8 months in summer but my pay is spread throughout 12 months and It will be about £300 i will owe.
I wont get my first pay packet from my new employer until after my bankruptcy ends.
Do I have to inform my OR of all this? My new pay will be about £50 a week more than I am on now.
I would be most grateful of any advice.
Thanks

You have 21 days from the date the change actually happens (the new wage arriving in your bank account) to tell the OR. If the change actually happens after you are discharged - then no you don't have to tell them. However, I assume there is no surplus IPA being paid ?
  • Hi
Thanks for the advice. No I am not on an IPA, and my first wage is due after my discharge date, its just I will miss a months pay in the meantime.
So it doesn't really sound like I need to inform them. Thanks
  • Hi again,
Just wanting to clarify, as just trying to decide the best start date for my new job, if my new employer pays me 20 days or less before my discharge do i still need to inform the OR?
The wage will actually be the same as my last job, just a different employer.
If the new wage goes in after my discharge date, i will be going without a wage for 1 month, so equally do i need to notify theOR of the fact I'll not be getting paid?
  • You only need to notify the O.R of any changes within 21days.
As you are not in an I.P.A and your new job pays the same as your last one, I do not see a need to notify them, discharge is just around the corner.
Remember to check the Insolvency service online search your name and click on it, it will show your status as discharged, print of a couple of copies as this is only there for 3 months.
  • Thank you for this! I'm really grateful for the advice and this is such a helpful forum, my bankruptcy experience would have been so much more scary without it.
