Advice please regarding self assessment

Hi,

I would like some advice, please. My partner, who is a farmer lives in a council property. Is he able to also claim any tax allowable expenses associated with running his business from the council property?

Yes, in theory, he can claim some of the expenses of running the home, but his tenancy agreement with the council may prevent him from running a business from the property. If this is the case, he needs to be careful that he isn't evicted for breaching his tenancy agreement.

What can be claimed depends on whether the farm business is a sole trader, partnership or limited company. The link below provides some guidance:

The comments I post are my personal opinion. While I try to check everything is correct before posting, I can and do make mistakes, so always try to check official information sources before relying on my posts.
