Hello,
I sent a ‘prove it’ letter to a dc company who had contacted me regarding a debt I don’t recognise. I sent it via email and have received a reply asking me to confirm my DOB, any previous names, previous addresses for the past 6 years and current address. Do they really need all this info to avoid a data protection breach as they claim? If not, what info do they actually need? I just feel uncomfortable sending that much info about myself.
Many thanks for any advice

Don't tell them anything, they are fishing for information.
Particularly if they sent their "request" via email, just ignore it.
Wait until they send you an actual letter by post through your letterbox to which you reply with the proveit letter, again giving them as little information as possible.
Most likely it's someone else with a similar name to yours who they are chasing and have sent out several of these fishing attempts to try and catch the one they want.0 -
