King of squandering

Options
Good morning,

I need some help with my debt I started at £27,500 and have managed to get it down to £7,500, this sounds like a greater feat than it is, I sold every material item I had that was worth anything, watches, computers, tools, gadgets, etc. and paid off a chunk of debt but I am still horrendous with money, well, not just me but my wife too.

Bit of back story...I am married, 31 with 2 (2 & 7) children, I've recently moved house and got married, which is where an influx of debt has come from the other debt is from being a degenerate and buying things I don't need. I have a lot of stresses weighing me down at the moment and being in debt is only adding to it, I need to overhaul my outlook on life.

My wife is unwell and awaiting a diagnosis, she is about to lose her job because of this and I don't really know what to to about that. Not sure on what she can do around the house to make money so I'll have to do a bit of research there. Hopefully we get some good news this week.

We are sitting down tomorrow night to go through all of our finances and come up with a game plan on how we can not only shift the remainder of the debt but change our attitude towards money. I think our biggest wastes are eating out/takeaways, going out too much and buying pointless things.

Any suggestions/ideas or links to good reading on how to become more thrifty will be greatly appreciated!

There are lots of blogs around about being more frugal. Frugalwoods and The frugal cottage are two off the top of my head. Dave Ramsey podcasts are popular on her too.

An soa would be a good start (statement of account). Doing a spending diary also helps focus the mind on where you are wasting money. If takeaways are your downfall maybe restrict yourselves to once or twice a month and meal plan. Take lunch to work and shop at Aldi's or Lidl's. Does your wife not get sick pay?
