in Cutting tax
Hi there,
I have been looking back at my US dividends payments for 2017/2018 and i noticed that for 3 of my 4 Apple dividends i paid 30% withholding tax. For the last one i paid 15% withholding tax, presumably because i had filled in the W-8 BEN by then.
So my question is can i reclaim the extra tax paid on the dividends charged at 30%? And if so how do i do it?
Thanks in advance!

You will need to apply for an ITIN: https://www.irs.gov/individuals/international-taxpayers/acceptance-agents-united-kingdomHi there,

You will need to complete and file IRS Form 1040NR and file it with the IRS.0 -
Depending on your rate of tax you can also claim a credit against UK income athough the UK rate is likely to be lower and could be zero. The relief is capped of the UK tax due on the dividends

See page 9 of form 1040NR instructions, under the heading "Simplified Procedure for Claiming Certain Refunds". Since this requires applying for an ITIN first, the IRS's description of it as 'simplified' stretches credibility. So my question is can i reclaim the extra tax paid on the dividends charged at 30%? Thanks for the replies. I had a feeling it wasn't going to be straightforward. :-(0
