Charge release--Scotland mortgage

Hi folks hope someone can advise.

I recently paid off my First Direct mortgage and they have advised that I need to contact a solicitor for a "charge release". I am in Scotland

Can anyone advise of approx cost or is this something that I can complete myself

    Hello, I've literally just paid my solicitor bill for this, my total cost was £242 which comprised of a £150 fee, £10 anti money laundering check (plus VAT on both) and a £50 fee for registration dues of discharge.

    Not sure if you can do this yourself....Nationwide advised me to use a solicitor and I couldn't be bothered with any more hassle, haha!

    Ashamed to say I'm dragging my feet on this one, and haven't even started the process yet :o

    Will action it tomorrow which will be my 7 years anniversary less 1 day when I bought at auction :D

    Got my 3 quotes yesterday, and seems standard (almost)

    Rang the company that dealt with my purchase - seems he is now retired and sold the business
    Quote £250 all in,

    next stated it would depend on what my property was worth :think: and came back with
    Quote of £362 :eek:

    and final one (which is fairly local) was £252, they said Fee for the registration is £60.
    Always have 00.00 at the end of your mortgage and one day it will all be 0's :dance:
