What is veneer prep?

Having my teeth prepared for veneers later today but wondering what it actually involves? is it straight forward? would I need anaesthetic? etc thanks

Your dentist should explain all of this so you understand what you are having done , the lifespan of a veneer and risks involved.

Veneers have an average lifespan of ten years. Every time they need replacing more tooth will need removing and the more tooth is removed the more likelihood there is of damage to the nerve of the tooth.

Depending on why you are having the veneers you may need a little enamel shaving off and need no anaesthetic , or you may need extensive enamel removed with anaesthetic.

Then you will need impressions of the teeth , temporary veneers fitting and a week later you will have the veneers cemented in.

However you should not consent to such potentially invasive and destructive treatment without understanding the procedure, the risks , the lifespan of the veneers and the consequences of that.

As Brook said - you really should know a bit more about why this is being done, and what it all involves before having it done.

I'm sure it's being done for a very good reason - especially if it's being done on the NHS - but it's a bit concerning that you have been told so little about it.
    How to find a dentist.
    1. Get recommendations from friends/family/neighbours/etc.
    2. Once you have a short-list, VISIT the practices - dont just phone. Go on the pretext of getting a Practice Leaflet.
    3. Assess the helpfulness of the staff and the level of the facilities.
    4. Only book initial appointment when you find a place you are happy with.
