Can 16yr old son buy family & friends railcard for him and his mate?

So, here's the simple question:

Can my newly turned 16yr old son buy a family & friends railcard for him and his 15yr old mate?

They want to do a big trip on the sleeper train from London to Scotland and reckon it's cheapest to do it this way combining all fares and splitting the cost. Even though it's more than likely that the Family & Friends railcard won't get used again.

I know it's more aimed at Parents and their children so I'm wondering if anyone has utilised the card in this way. It will have a very short shelf life as the other lad turns 16 in may but they reckon it will pay for itself on this one trip.

Yes. Can put 2 adult names on railcard. When friend turns 16 can still get benifits for duration of railcard. If 1 year? If 3 year railcard discount until day before 17. See if there are any codes to get it cheaper. Perhaps good idea son takes ID to prove it his his.

Conditions of use of the Family & Friends Railcard

4.1. One Railcard will be issued to up to two people aged 16 years or over. The names of the cardholders must be provided at the time of purchase – if you purchase a Railcard for one person, you cannot add a second name later.
4.2. Each cardholder must sign the Railcard before use to show acceptance of the Railcard Conditions (see condition 2.1).
4.3. To purchase discounted tickets, at least one cardholder and at least one child aged 5 to 15 years must be travelling together.
    Can't see why not.

I know it's obviously aimed at (groups of) parents with kids and I was worried that there would be an issue with him buying this and using it, but couldn't see anything in the small print myself.

Thanks for your answers, much appreciated.

On Caledonian Sleeper services anyone under 16 must be accompanied by a 'responsible adult'.

You need to contact the operator and get a response in writing that they will accept a 16 year old travelling with a 15 year old.
