Please pm me. It has to be destroyed in a environmentally friendly way. You must not touch it. I will dispose of it for you.0

Haa to all those requesting I send it to them! I've been thoroughly reassured by you lot and ate a nice chunk with a green apple for lunch and am making macaroni cheese for dinner.
I'll keep an eye out for mould but it's very delicious at the moment and no sign of any of that or even any drying up. I'm so glad I don't have to throw it away, it came to me as a Xmas gift and I'm enjoying it even if a bit late.Magnolia Stellata0 -
Mature cheddar by name and nature is already many months old before it even hits the supermarkets. Believe me, a few extra weeks in your fridge or mine will make no difference to its keeping prospects.
Macaroni cheese, cauliflower cheese and cheesy stuffed jacket potatoes should soon help you make inroads into it and grated up and stored in small portions in a freezer it will happily keep for months.0 -
It's fine. I leave cheese out of the fridge for up to a week and eat it, does depend on the type though, I like the gooey melty creamy stuff. I also purposly but cheese cheap that expires the day and do the same as it is newar ready.
Anyway, unless it has the wrong sort of mold on it, them it is fine. And with cheddar you can just cut those bits off.
Dates on items are just esitmates for paranoid sellers anyway. Its we will not guarantee it after this point, not it will kill you. Use you senses.0 -
Oh dear. I've somehow overlooked a fair sized block of cheese in my fridge. It was bought for Xmas and says use by 19 Jan. How long have I got to eat it before I shouldn't? There's only me here and I don't want to eat cheese every day!!
I don't take any notice of 'use by' or 'best before' dates.
I have, in the past, cut mouldy bits off cheese, actually lots of times.
Either use it, freeze it or bin it.0 -
If you can whip up a quick fondue I think you have a house full of willing guests lined up

Once it is opened from its vacuum packaging, cheese lasts even longer tightly wrapped in foil, rather than clingfilm......0

As OP has not come back this morning, we must assume that eating out of date cheese is bad for you. If they had taken my advice, OP would still be here. In future please be aware I would have disposed of it properly !0
