How to claim for past expenses?

in Cutting tax
I have been working in government service since 2005. I have been subscribing to many professional subscriptions costing about £1600/year. Only recently I came to know I can claim tax relief. I guess I get 40% tax relief so it would be about £640/year which is lot of money for me ( 640*10 years =£6400)
I have been filing self assessment tax return from tax year 2015-16.
2014-15: I have filled a 'tax relief for expenses of employment' p87.
2015-16: HMRC website did not allow to amend tax return or file p87. But, asked us to call them.
2016-17: I have modified the tax return to include the expenses
2017-18: I have filed the tax return online including these expenses.
Please could anyone help me with below queries:
1. How do I claim the tax relief on expenses from 2005 to 2014 ?
2. Can I do it online?
3. Do we need to approach any accountants or tax professionals?
Thanks in advance,
Am

1. You can't, you have left it too late for anything earlier than 2014:15.
2. No
3. That is a personal choice, there is no legal requirement to use an accountant or tax professional. They cannot change the tax legislation which is stopping you from claiming for years earlier than 2014:150 -

Does your employer reimburse you (or pay) for these professional subscriptions and/or do they specifically relate to your job?
And are they all on list 3?
