How long after mortgage can I get a car?

I'm about to apply for a mortgage, I know this will wreck my credit score for a bit. How long should I wait after the mortgage has started (after securing the mortgage and exchanging contracts on the property) before I try to get a car on finance?

It'd be worth getting on the ER before trying.0

What do you mean by ER?0

ER stands for Electoral Register.
You need to change address on the ER (and all your credit accounts too) before applying for finance. So that everything in your credit file is at the same address.

There have also been horror stories on the mortgage board of people having their mortgage offer withdrawn in the period between exchange and completion becasue they applied for a loan during the time. So I would wait til the house is actually yours.0
