House in Ireland

I am Irish and I bought a house with an ex partner when I lived in Ireland. The relationship ended and I moved to the UK. The house has been vacant for many years. The mortgage has not been paid since. Last year the bank took possession of the house via CCJ. The house has not yet been sold by the bank.
I've lived in the UK for 7 years. I earn ~12k a year and have no UK debts, no credit cards or credit accounts, and no assets. I live in rented accommodation. I can't afford to pay the mortgage debt. I just want to put it behind me and get on with my life. I don't like the idea of bankruptcy, but this has been hanging over me for over a decade and I am hoping that bankruptcy will allow me to move on. I have ignored this problem for too long and realise this was foolish.
I have read that Brexit brings a lot of uncertainty regarding UK bankruptcy involving debt owed outside the UK, which has made me think now is the time to do it (if it's not already too late!).
Also, with the house not yet sold, can I even go bankrupt?
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
edit: I should have mentioned - Republic of Ireland
