Illness & Finances.. How do I know if I am bankrupt?

Hi this is perhaps a silly question, but hear me out please:
I had some debt problems in the UK before I had some health problems, and I wasn't able to work and had to move abroad with my family.
defaulted on my credit card and I also have an unpaid loan, but is there is a way to know if
Now my question is, how can I know what the situation is with my debts? I know that I anyone applied for bankruptcy?
Part of the issue is that while I was away and ill, someone broke into my flat, robbed the place and caused a lot of damage. I informed the landlord and one of my friends moved what was left of my stuff out of the flat into storage when I was away, and I told my landlord that I have to leave.
Now the landlord is chasing me for damages to the flat, plus he wants 3 months rent for ending the tenancy contract.. I told him I'll pay you when I can. But he is being an idiot about it and is taking me to court. There have already been a couple hearings and I didn't even show up cause I wasn't in the country. I told him I'm not even in the country, and I showed him my bank statement that shows I am overdrawn, but he is not giving up. Someone told him my family has money, and he is chasing me for it. He is demanding something like £20,000 plus court costs. I can't afford a solicitor so I have no idea what's going on with the court cases, other than I get an email from his solicitors every once in a while. I just tell them I'm not in the country, and they keep doing their thing regardless.
The other problem is that all my banking mail has been going to my old flat and my landlord has taken it or thrown it away. I had a friend go and try to collect the mail, but he told her "there is nothing". (Total BS, how can I not have any mail after months?)
(I know that it is illegal to take my mail, but the police told me they can't do anything as they can't actually prove that the landlord took the mail.)
Largely I don't care anymore; I don't have the money and if he wants to waste his time being unpleasantly inconsiderate and trying to squeeze blood from a rock he can do so. However, my concern is that since I'm not showing up for court, and because he does have a case for me owning him money, I'll get some sort of court order in my absence to pay and then he would try to file for bankruptcy.
And then the question is, how would I even know about it?

I suppose it can depend where you are now and if you intend returning to the UK
the LL can pay for a CCJ and then a High Court writ but thats going to cost him
he could make you bankrupt but he will get nothing then0 -
