Debt collection letter almost 3 years on??

Hi all,
I'm new to this site and not quite sure how it works, or even if I'm in the right place!
I've just received an email from CCI Credit Management telling me to call them about a financial matter. I had no idea what this could be, so called them this afternoon (probably not what I should have done in hindsight). They informed me it was for an unpaid Moorfields Hospital invoice....
I had some diagnostic testing privately back in 2014. I think I paid the invoices myself and then claimed the money back from my insurers. One obviously slipped through the net, so fast forward to April 2016, and Moorfields were chasing me to settle the £300+ invoice. I explained that at that moment I could only afford to pay by monthly installments, £40 per month. They said I had to pay it within 3 months. I explained again that I could not afford to do that and that £40 per month was my best offer, and I heard no more from them...
Now we're in January 2019 and I am receiving emails and text messages form CCI Credit Management to try and recover the money. I am annoyed that this has come out of the blue, almost 3 years on from the last correspondence between myself and Moorfields, and almost 5 years on from the tests that I had done. Does anybody know if they can chase this up via a debt recovery company considering the time that has passed, with no correspondence from Moorfields?
Thank you for your help in advance!

Hi,
The Limitations act 1980 gives creditors 6 years in which to chase bad debts, so the answer is yes, they can.
When dealing with debt collectors, you never, ever ring them, you do everything in writing only, you do not have to respond to phone calls, texts or emails, you only need respond if they write to you.
Offer what you can afford, they will get no more if they went to court, maybe remind them of that, debt collectors like to use the phone as their number one weapon of choice as it gives them the opportunity to say and demand things, they would not dare to put into writing.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the Debt free wannabe, Credit file and ratings, and Bankruptcy and living with it boards. They have 6 years to chase any debt.
Why did you not just send the £40 a month that you said you could afford.
At any time they can issue a court summons. You really dont want a CCJ. Your credit will be trashed.
Can you afford to pay for it bow. You sound as if you know that you owe it,.4make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.0 -
Get a complaint straight in. They are governed by FCA and cannot dictate payments. It’s whatever you can afford0

Come on, you must know that you have no right to be annoyed. How do you think the hospital, feels, having given you treatment, effectively on credit, and having you not pay for years?
Set aside your unreasonable annoyance, engage sensibly with them, and look to see if you have any way of raising the money. Is there anything that you can sell, any extra work that you can take on, or any other way to find the money?
They gave you treatment when you needed it, trusting you to pay. Your not doing somwill change the probability that the next person who needs treatment and needs credit gets the help that they could be given.
Please, don’t harm those who need what you had done by not exploring every avenue to honour your debt.0 -

Why aren't you sending this bill to your insurer, like the others?0
