A dear friend got her british citizenship last week but wasn't really well so we haven't celebrated yet. I was going to make her a cake and stick a union flag on it but haven't been able to find one anywhere. I'm definitely not up to drawing one. I did think we had some little sandcastle flags but can't find them either. I have silver balls, icing sugar and red and blue food colouring and no piping bag or skills. I haven't made the cake yet and at the moment am just thinking of fairy cakes with dfferent colour icing on ... unless any of you have any other ideas

you could get fairy cakes (or make them) then ice them all in the right colours to make the flag!
If not print off a pic of the flag, then cut round the bits and use those as templates for your icing...0 -
You could find a flag on the internet and if you've got a colour printer print this off and attach to cocktail sticks. What goes around - comes around
give lots and you will always recieve lots0 -
You could make up or buy some white roll out icing and colour it with red and blue colouring??
Print out a template off the internet for the flag roll the icing pieces out and cut each piece out seperately to the templates in the right colour..bit of a faff but should look good??0 -
Here are some pics which you might be able to use:

Lovely idea. I like the idea of making fairy cakes in the shape of the flag.
Or for something simple, what about red white and blue lettering saying congratulations with some flowers on it?
Or I have a feeling Asda can take a photo and make a copy in sugar paper to put on their cakes??? Maybe you could just take the topping? Maybe someone knows more. I remember considering getting one with a sunflower on it for my wedding.May all your dots fall silently to the ground.0 -
Thanks so much for the ideas and pictures - no colour ink in the printer so I think I'm going to go with iced fairy cakes. Might just do some random ones in red or white or blue but I do like the idea of arranging them in the shape of the flag - am thinking teeny weeny petit four casesI'm going to feed our children non-organic food and with the money saved take them to the zoo - half man half biscuit 20080

I like the idea of the random red white and blue - if you have the ability to write on them with icing, you could use the same colours randomly to spell 'CONGRATULATIONS' (one letter per cake) or something more personal.....0
