GDPR Data request rules

GDPR rules,

Often when companies buy people’s debt they never disclose the amount they pay for such debt (for obvious reasons!)! So even if I own for instance 3K for a credit card which originally was with MBNA and then debt sold (as an example) to Cabot, the company (Cabot) do not have to disclose the amount they paid …. I was wondering (and maybe some experts here can clarify) if I submit a GDPR data request to Cabot about ALL the information they withhold about myself, I presume the amount they paid for the debt would/should be shown? Otherwise I guess it would mean they are not providing ALL data as requested.
Any thoughts?

The amount paid for debts when they’re sold is usually confidential between the creditor and collection agency, so is not directly your business, and it’s unlikely they’ll tell you.

As a rule of thumb, they normally pay around 5p in the pound for bad debts, which is why they can afford to discount heavily and still make a profit.

Commercial data of a company isn't your personal data, so no.

Also they probably didn't pay £50 for chess321's debt - they will have paid £50,000 for a whole load of debt which happens to include yours.
But a banker, engaged at enormous expense,
Had the whole of their cash in his care.

  • That’s definitely business information and would not be on your account. DSAR is for information logged on your account only such as notes, email correspondence, letter correspondence that type of things.
  • From what I understand (I'm not an expert) but the collection agency will buy a bulk load of "bad" debt for an amount so it's not individually saying they will buy Mr X £1000 debt for £10.
Thanks to money saving tips and debt repayments/becoming debt free I have been able to work and travel for the last 4 years visiting 12 countries and working within 3 of them. Currently living and working in Canada
