Not sure if I follow the question as you mean it. If you have placed £30k in the pension then £30k is what you can invest.I am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA). With that amount, just one would do the job. A simple multi-asset fund.I am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA). The comments I make are just my opinion and are for discussion purposes only. Depends on how you want to run your portfolio. Just 1 is perfectly reasonable for a good multi asset fund where the fund chooses a wide range of different areas to invest in. There are a number of such funds available with different risk/returns. No work for you to do, just leave it to do its job.
On the other hand with more experience you may want to create your own portfolio from more basic building blocks. For £30K I suggest you dont have more than say 5-6 funds investing in different areas as an absolute maximum. Too many and the effort of managing them may not be worthwhile in absolute £ terms.0 -
If it was a multi asset fund then 1 would do the job. If you are trying to build a portfolio from non multi asset funds then generally 7 or 8 are considered the No to cover all you need.
The amount you have is really too small to spread around this No of funds so multi asset is probably the way to go.0 -
Like other posters here, I would spread it over one fund

And the whay you have phrased this question brings to mind why you have chosen a pension meant in general for experienced investors?
I agree with most above. A global multi asset fund esp if you will be adding to it.
If you want it to provide income, and are planning on drawdown sooner rather than laater i'd look at income funds/trusts0
