IPA and Tax question

Hello :hello: I apologise for the long read-
I've been scanning this forum for a while and already had loads of help and advice from reading other members Q&As
Basically I was declared bankrupt on the first week of November '18. I had my telephone interview with OR which was incredibly quick (that's the last I've heard from OR).. Will I hear from her again?
I then spoke to someone about assest (i had no assets) but as my car was going to be repossessed, he allowed me to use my chrsitmas bonus to buy myself a car (need for work) and found a surplus with my household income, I signed a letter agreeing to pay £200 pcm for 36months and sent it back.
My NT tax code was applied in December (I get paid weekly) and I still haven't had a phone call to start paying the IPA or to collect any tax? I've opened a seperate saving account and every week I'm estimating my tax and a little more just incase Ive calculated wrong. Shall I wait It out or call OR? I want to start paying the IPA ASAP so I can start counting down the 36 months.

Final question, my £200 a month surplus was including my partners income to the home, but she's on a 0 hour contract and some weeks doesn't work, but OR has her down as working 18 hours p/w. If I phone and say my partner is out of work, or has no more hours in work, how will they ask me to prove this? Will they ask for her payslips even tho she has nothing to do with the bankruptcy?
Thanks for reading, any input or advice will be appreciated.

James

Hi. Sit tight on your tax - the OR's agents will be in touch eventually. It used to be a company called Clarke-Willmott. Don't know if it still is.
I am concerned about the IPA you've agreed to though. The OR should have based their calculation on your wife's average pay over the past year - is that what they did?
If there is a big drop in your household income you need to be letting the OR know this has happened and have the IPA adjusted accordingly.
Did you get any advice on the SoA you submitted to the OR?

The Gardener, thank you for your reply :)
Every week I'm sending the amount I should be taxed (plus more just incase) into a seperate, unused account so its ready when they collect it. The man who arranged it said 'let's just call it £50 a week' however my workings out is £61, so I'm putting aside £70 per week, so when they do ask for it, I'll have a little extra over.

The SoA on the other hand was pretty hard to do, as we were on the phone and he was just asking how much I pay for stuff and we were both working on a guess. With my partners income, I just said what she got paid the month prior to the phone call, but I did say that veried. And then he came up with a 200 surplus and that was that.. 200 a month is affordable because that's what I was paying for my car before that got repossessed (didn't miss 1 payment in 2 and a half years on that, but my finance companies rules are to terminate bankrupt peoples) but now Christmas is over, my hours are going down which I have proof of, but my partners hours are going down as she's on 0 hour contract. Would OR want to see my partners payslips? As she's not involved in the bankruptcy, I can imagine her being a little nervous if her personal stuff started to get scrutinised

I would do an SoA using this link http://www.stoozing.com/calculator/soa.php

There is a button at the bottom of the form to post on this forum. If we can have a look at your SoA we can suggest any changes. Take time to make sure its as accurate as possible and use a median amount that your partner earns.
you can always ask the OR to reconsider the SoA if there are changes.

It was the Insolvency Services Official Receiver you have been dealing with wasn't it? It just seems odd that they would have such a casual approach to the Tax - it should be clear from your payslips what your tax normally is.

When we done the income and expenditure, I was just doing the usual, we spend around 450pcm on food shop, 250 per year on school clothes for the kids etc. But yeah he was pretty casual when it came to the tax coz he just said 'well, lets just call it 50 a week then is it?' so I said yeah, and the 50 a week is on paper that I signed to pay but it is looking like its more than that. I can't go on 'what it normally is' as one week I'll do 68 hours, the week after I'll do 57 hours, the week after I'll do 70 hours so on so forth.. There isn't an average to work on

There is always an average - just do the maths. If we can see the SoA we might be able to help you reduce the IPA.
