Arrgh, help Pot Noodle disaster!!

I very rarely have a pot noodle, but it was calling me last night, so I made it up and went to put it on the coffee table and wooops, all over the carpet!

So I cleaned it up and scrubbed the carpet, it looked pretty good last night. But to top off the disasterous weekend that I've had, I got up this morning and where the pot noodle had fallen, the carpet is a lovely shade of bright yellow.

I've put vanish on it, and I've scrubbed and scrubbed, but it won't come out.

I really don't want to go down the lines of a new carpet, it wouldn't be so bad, but we don't own the house. My hubby recons a dye mixed roughly to the colour of the carpet and stippling it on would be ok, but that sounds more like making it worse.

Any ideas?

How about hiring a carpet cleaner? My DD very kindly drew on my bedroom carpet with lipstick, but a Rug Doctor lifted it, no problems - we hired it from the dry cleaners.

I'm guessing that it's probably turmeric, or similar, that has stained your carpet, so you'll probably need something along these lines to shift it. If you know someone with a Vax it might be worth a try.

Probably best not to try dyeing the carpet....

Our dog was ill on my light coloured carpet and I used M & S liquid for whites - its a green liquid and as it was midnight I did my best - in the morning no mark left! - amazing - I went over it with a towel after I had washed it thoroughly and stood on the towel to get the wetness out then I rinsed the carpet with clean water and did the towel till it was really quite dry and its wonderful.
Saving in my terramundi pot £2, £1 and 50p just for me! :j
  • I always use biological powder on any stains on the carpet, cat was ill and messed on the top of the landing, bio powder brought it straight off, same with coke spilt again on stairs carpet, which is wool in an oatmeal colour, tried allsorts then saw a programme where they used bio powder so i tried it and the carpet came up like new! I swear by it for carpet stains.

  • For years I have used car upholstry cleaner (spray in a can) - even took out and old cherryaide stain of my light lounge carpet. Also use it for spotting - have never had problems with it taking colour out of carpets - I always buy the cheapest.

I'm going to have a go at some of these tips. The other night my daughter managed to tip her entire dinner (bolognese) all over the carpet when she went to pick something up off the floor. There's still a stain there. When she was sick on the carpet a couple of months ago I cleaned it with Vanish carpet foam and it lightened the carpet so I'm not going to use that again, especially as we are only renting and we do want our deposit back when we move!

Do you make up a thick paste and leave it on?

I know this is an old thread- so sorry for bringing it up again, but I thought I'd give an update on the stain!

Turns out what causes the yellow in pot noodles is tumeric. Which is a dye, so no amount of scrubbing will remove the stain.

I was starting to panic, as we're moving out and I though the MOD might charge us for a whole new carpet! (It's certainly not unknown for them to do that)

Anyway, it turns out turmeric isn't colour fast under UV light. So I've moved the tv way from the stain and opened the curtains so the light is kind of angled over that direction, and wow - after a week it had completely dissappeared!

Amazing, you'll never have known it was there!

So next time you stain some thing with anything that's had tumeric in it, give it a wash and leave it in the sun!
