Some Compers Grrrr

  • As others have said, it doesn't matter if its a bot or a real person retweeting your comp retweets their entry will not count. It has to be retweeted from the original comp post. I automatically block anyone who retweets my comp tweets simply because most are bots. Doesn't affect you though because as said their entries will not count.

  • Yikes I didn’t realise this!!! I have a few compers that I follow and when I scroll through my twitter feed it’s full of comps that people have retweeted. I just press retweet in the iPhone app ( for example it will say 145 retweets, I click and it’s then 146) so every time I have done this it’s been giving people notifications ???? I’ve tried to press the time and date on the app but nothing happens? How do I stop doing this?
  • Retweeting from anothers retweet does count as an entry. It shows as a retweet for the original post.
Look at non competition posts for example, this is how a tweet goes viral because others share it from people they follow etc!

certain compers spread the myth it doesn't count because they don't like the notifications coming up that others have retweeted their retweet. They seem oblivious to the fact they can just change their notifications to mentions only etc.

Some compers do not like their entries being shared, some even run their own competitions but carey on blocking people so they can't enter. pretty weird.

Some compers believe they put the "effort" in to find the tweet so other compers are being lazy by seeing it on their timelines.

It's funny because if twitter didn't have the notification about retweeting retweets they wouldn't even know.

They don't seem to understand how social media works. Companies ask for a retweet so it spreads and more people see it. That is the point.

If you want to look for twitter comps some searches which can be helpful include 'rt to win' 'enter to win' and #competition
  • Somebody was retweeting my replies as well. Politely explained this does not enter her into the comp but just clogs my notifications up! She apologised and said she didn't know. But I most confess i have blocked people in the past who constantly RT everything I tweet. Clogs my notifications up too much.
  • They do not count as most competitions terms on there say it has to be from the original tweet and i'll take the word of the comp runners who know what their own rules are. Also a retweet is no different from sharing a post on facebook. Most comps on facebook want you to share the comp as part of entry because believe it or not companies run competitions to bring attention to their brand. it isn't for your sake. So if you share a facebook comp it is because they want you to share the comp to friends and the public so that they get even more people coming, entering and seeing their brand. It is no different on twitter. What would be the point if your retweets were not seen by others and those people did not enter through your tweet (If you believe they can) or through seeing your tweet and going to the original comp. I don't understand how it affects anyone in any way at all.

  • Thanks for explaining my point. The original brand/tweeter wants as many people to retweet/share their post as possible. This means when one person retweets/shares it with their 100 followers those 100 followers will see the original tweetpost and can retweet it straight from their timelines toctheir followers and so it continues.
The original tweeter/poster will see the retweet number rise and have a list of all who retweeted. Itis impossible for them to see where the retweet came from their timeline or from a followers who retweeted.

Please post a link to some terms which says you must only retweet from their timeline?
I believe they will say No quote retweets but thats entirely different.

To clarify the only reason you know someone shared your retweet is because twitter tells you to let you know your followers are interested in the same thing. It doesn't affect you and feel free to turn the notifications to mentions only so you don't see it.
  • Also to clarify there is no way the original tweeter wouldn't see your retweet, whether from their timeline, a different timeline it had been retweeted into or through a search/hashtag .
facebook shares maybe different I don't know but twitter is all about sharing.

I block people who retweet my retweets just to keep the number of notifications down, otherwise there's loads of them

Assuming that a retweet of a retweet counts as a valid entry it is still not unreasonable to want people to retweet the company tweet instead of one by someone else and blocking people who unnecessarily retweet is the easiest way to go - That way the individuals do not have to change any settings and can still get notified when something not competition related is retweeted.
