There are Data protection laws and GDPR laws which mean if someone calls up to ask what information they hold about the person, they have to tell you (unless there is a legal reason why they would not - which would be things like fraud prevention or it affecting a criminal investigation for instance).

A prime example, if you call up or write in to your credit card company and ask what information they have on you, they will need to tell you everything they hold - which will include any notes added to your account. When I used to work in RBS credit card centre we would put notes on the account for example if people called up to say they would be on holiday and using their card abroad or if they paid late and wanted the late fee refunding, what reason they gave for being late and so on.

Thank you for that and I apologise for the delay in thanking you for the explanation.

The only reason that she doesn't want him to know her source of paying the mortgage off is because, should he know we are gifting her the money, he could dig his heels in more, and in addition, he would know our personal business.

He now says the house is going up for sale for £10k more than the valuation. My daughter wants to buy the house as it is near to her work and near to our grandaughters, school.

If the house was to sell, it would emotionally upset our Grandaughter, she has friends near and goes to lots of after school activities. House sales in that area are rare, and mainly, unaffordable.

    Can he force a sale?
    Keep on trucking!

Has she sought legal advice? Might be an idea to do this. I had an awful time trying to extricate myself from a failed relationship with a joint mortgage.

She has been to Citizens Advice, had two free half hour sessions with solicitors and aloso been to the police as the ex was driving up and down the cul-de-sac where she lives, and she was a bit scared. Next week she has an appointment with Mediation team.
    Keep on trucking!
