Which: How Independent Is It?

I recently ordered a Beko freezer from an independent retailer. As he was looking up the model on his system, the assistant asked me if I'd chosen that model because of a Which review, which I said I had.
He then said "you do know that Which is sponsored by Beko, don't you, so they're not independent".
He offered no evidence for this, and I'd never heard it before, so I just carried on with the purchase, but is there any truth in it?
Even if there is some financial relationship between Beko and Which it certainly hasn't resulted in Which always recommending Beko's products.

He's talking rubbish. See https://www.which.co.uk/about-whichGoogling on your question might have been both quicker and easier, if you're only after simple facts rather than opinions!0

What was he trying to sell you instead?0

I've no idea. He didn't suggest any alternatives.0 -
The assistant concerned always works in the shop, I know that for a fact.
I was fully expecting him to follow up his comment about Which with an invitation to consider some other models, which they probably get better commission on, but there was no follow-up. I must admit I offered no encouragement to continue down that road, as I simply didn't reply to the Which remark.
I found the whole thing annoying, as I thought it would be good to support a local high street business - ended up wishing I'd just ordered online as I usually do.0 -
