One way to avoid putting dispensers into landfill is to use bars of soap.

It is the old-style sub-forum after all.

You can get a bar of soap for as little as 20p and it lasts for ages. Money-saving or not?
I heard the other day that sales of soap bars are rocketing lately as consumers want to avoid plastic waste.
  • Someone recently sent me a recipe to make hand soap, 4/5 normal sized bottles, from one bar of soap, 2 tablespoons of coconut oil and water, but I havent tried it yet, waiting until my current bottles run out

Chemically: fat + alkali = soap

  • Grate your bar of soap
Bring 8 cups of water to the boil & turn off the heat
Slowly whisk in grated soap until its all melted
    Add 2 TBSP coconut oil
Whisk everything together, it will look like soapy water
Let pot sit for 15 minutes
    Give another good whisk
Let cool & set for 12 hrs
Whisk (she suggests using an electric whisk) until resembles liquid soap

Like I said, I havent tried it yet, so.......
I do plan on trying it once i have bottles empty to refill
