Help me find a mortgage adviser

Hi all,
I'm currently living in a property I'm hoping to buy from the owner. I need some mortgage advice and I'd like to meet face to face with someone, rather than use a call centre-based mortgage adviser.
Can anyone tell me the best way to find a helpful mortgage adviser in or around Northampton?
Thanks in advance!

Hi Minisaver
Let me first put on the disclaimer that I am an IFA who does mortgages also.
To answer your question you should look for someone who is an independent mortgage adviser. You want someone who can look at the whole market for you which hopefully will lead to the best possible deal for you.The problem with going into a bank for example is that they usually only consider their own products.
Secondly you need to agree what you will pay as some advisers are happy to work for the procuration fee offered by the lender and some are not. There might need to be a reserve scenario as one or two lenders with good deals do not pay a procuration fee.In such a scenario I have agreed with customers once this seems likely ( and if it is the best deal for them) that they will pay me a fee equal to a usual procuration fee.
Also do not forget quality of advice as a good adviser will help you in other areas. By this I mean help on buildings and contents insurance and matters such as life cover. This is my view starts with the basic question for life cover as assessing your circumstances and seeing if you need it or not. Then if you do finding you a good deal.
Particularly if you want someone to visit you and explain things you may as well get someone who is going to give you good advice.
This site obsesses on cheapness and there is value in that why pay £2 for something like milk if you can pay £1? But there is also value in paying for good advice as cheap bad advice can go very wrong!
Good Luck with your plans.I am an Independent Financial Adviser. For regulated individuals like me there are rules on giving financial advice. Therefore any posts I make are meant to be helpful but are not financial advice.0 -
Also, if you use a small local company, they often have very good working relationships with the local banks, this can really help. for example i often play golf with one of our local banks. i often find my applications go through much quicker than i expect them too!!I am a Mortgage Adviser
