Evening all,

Tomw, I start another education support role. For the past decade, this is probably my 5th / 6th new school. For me this is the final one, I'm looking at Primary teaching and this is a behaviours role to give me an insight into Primary schools.

Deep down, I'm feeling a little low. Feels like I've not progressed and having been in schools for 10 years already, I'm a little bored. I hope this fresh move, gives me a lift.

I say last support role because if I don't get the happiness/satisfaction, I'm leaving schools. I left uni over a decade ago and feel totally clueless to what I could do. My fault, I've sat in a comfort zone too long, piled on the weight, sat on my !!!! during school holidays!

Hoping 2019 I can turn my life around but confused, lacking the confidence and feel a little lost. All that and I've the anxiety of a new job but deep down, I know what it entails, how schools work so will be fine after week. Probably bored again in 3 weeks!

I'm joining the gym, to lose the weight and hopefully build the confidence. The job side of life...who knows?!

Sorry. This is more of a diary entry. Just me checking in. Anyone been "stuck in a rut" or unsure what to do? Maybe you and have a positive tale to tell? Or like me right now, clueless?

Thanks for reading, I hope I post in 12 months time full of hope, energy and desire.

EDIT: I wanted to add it's my home life that keeps going, 3 young kids and moved in May to a lovely 4 bed detached home. No debt and money to do the house up and a holiday a year. My partner has just started Uni. But whilst my personal work life continues to chug along, I'm not maximising my life.

Nobody is going to give you promotions, you have to work for them and show people why you deserve them. Part of the reason I went self employed was because I knew I would never get above a certain level as I am useless in interviews, I just fold.

Clearly on the upside you must be likeable and come across well as you are getting jobs. Stick it out, set yourself little targets and then a long term target in 3-4 years for a promotion or a certain income or whatever it may be, you know what you want from life.

The gym should help with anxiety and stress. I love going to gym and boxing etc especially when work is getting on top.

    Thanks for your reply.

There are no promotions. Ive Hit the ceiling point in school support, plus after a short while, it becomes boring.

It’s teacher or out of education after this role. My lack of confidence has held me back, sat in comfort zone, moving schools to similar roles, doesn’t help! I’m to blame.

I think the gym, weigh loss could just change my life...I really hope it does.

Short term. I’m giving his job till the end of the school year. If it goes well and I decide Primary is where I want to be, I apply Nov for teacher training, to start the following year. If not, by the end of the year, I will need to be in a different career! And maybe that just puts the !!!!!! up me! Hopefully the confidence gained from the gym will enable me to apply in new sectors if that’s the outcome!!

Aye, unless they invent a more senior role (which occasionally happens) there isn't much scope!

What are your thoughts about teaching? Could you do it? Might be a good step up, particularly if you like the Primary element of education (it is pretty chilled out in my opinion!). There may be options for you to train on the job as well, so no intensive PGCE course etc.

My lack of confidence has held me back, sat in comfort zone, moving schools to similar roles, doesn’t help! I’m to blame.

Well, sadly you are going to have to *learn* how to be confident if you want to get out of your comfort zone. Many people, myself included, have had to *learn* that skill at some point in their lives.

BUT don't write off this new school straight away. It sounds like a genuine change for you and one which will afford you new skills and experience. So take that as a huge positive. Have a bit of fun, particularly as it is a Primary school!

I think the gym, weigh loss could just change my life...I really hope it does.

I would personally try something like Weight Watchers. In fact, I'm a member and doing alright. I don't go to meetings because it is full of women and usually the odd husband who is henpecked etc but follow the online plan.

The gym is alright like, but weight loss is not generally determined by simply exercising (I regularly played sport 2 times a week and ate/drank crap and maintained a high weight; good to maintain, but it was too high).

Well, have a further look into that. When I did teacher training they threw silly money at Secondary School in the way of grants etc, but Primary wasn't as well funded. May have changed mind you, but worth scoping out.

If not, by the end of the year, I will need to be in a different career! And maybe that just puts the !!!!!! up me! Hopefully the confidence gained from the gym will enable me to apply in new sectors if that’s the outcome!!

Nothing wrong with considering a new career. Some of your skills are very transferrable. The thing I hate about teaching jobs is that it isn't really specialised enough so you could spend 10+ years doing it and not necessarily walk into a senior role elsewhere. May have to initially take a bit of a pay cut to climb the ladder.

But that depends on how drastic the change would be, too. Could also look into adult training etc.

Anyways, good luck in your new role!

Don't be so hard in yourself! You've got a successful personal life, this is a major achievement. And you have a job, and I'm sure you've helped plenty of children along with their education, another worthwhile achievement.

It makes sense you might want to refocus on personal success in your career and your health at this point in your life, which is great.

Cheers guys. Major positive replies. Just what I needed. Going to throw myself into this new role and see what becomes.

I believe I have the “personality and tools” to be a teacher but really lack the confidence! I had a PGCE place but had to give it up due to anxiety of myself and no self belief!
