Decision in principle and Credit Card De

Hi everyone,

Very new to this so hope I've done this right!

I was wondering if it's necessary to pay off credit card debt when applying for a Decision in Principle? Or whether to just wait until applying for the actual mortgage in a couple of months?

I know that my credit card debt will affect my mortgage affordability and have the savings to be able to pay them off now, but would rather get a couple of extra months of interest (all of my credit cards are interest free).

Is the Decision In Principle going to pick up on my credit card balances if I don't pay them off? Or are they only looked into at the actual mortgage approval stage?

Thanks! :)

  • I had a balance in my card when I got a DIP / mortgage offer. A condition of my offer was the card to be cleared prior to mortgage starting. I have no cleared the card.
